Improvements incoming for Black Bridge Road, to close until December

By Justin Koehler

A major construction project is getting set to begin in the north end of Cambridge, with Black Bridge Road slated to close throughout much of the year, beginning next week.

The City of Cambridge has said the stretch between Townline Road and Baldwin Drive will be closed as of Tuesday, Feb. 17, lasting throughout much of the year, into December.

Of course, that’s barring any delays or weather-related problems that construction crews could run into along the way.

The project itself is expected to cost $17 million, with the city saying, “Black Bridge Road will be hitting pause while we get to work on road improvements, a new multi-use trail, and upgrades to the heritage bridge.”

It means there’s a lot to look forward to for those who frequent the north end of Cambridge along Black Bridge Road, but it will be important to plan routes accordingly throughout the year.

“If you live within the construction zone, don’t worry, you can still get to and from home,” the city said in a post to social media. “Detour signs are going up this week to help everyone else navigate around the area.”

The city has said it will be working to detour drivers through Queen Street, along Townline Road and Guelph Avenue accordingly.

“Construction will keep rolling through the 2026 season, and we’ll keep you posted along the way!”
