A house fire in Kitchener has fire prevention staff investigating on Friday.
Late Thursday afternoon, five fire trucks responded to blaze at a home in the Fischer-Hallman Road and Victoria Street South area of the city. A semi-detached residence on Calais Place suffered $250,000 in damage from the fire.
That damage is mostly structural, with concerns about the integrity of the floor joists.
Two people were home at the time of the fire, one of them was sent to hospital for smoke inhalation.
Their ages and genders have not been released.
At this time, it’s unclear what caused the fire, though officials do not believe it was suspicious in nature.
Officials add they believe the fire started in the basement with the fire being contained to the lower two levels of the home.
The semi detached unit beside the home was not damaged.
Kitchener Fire Department Fire Prevention staff will be on scene Friday.
