Dozens arrested, over $6K in stolen items recovered in holiday blitz

It was a busy holiday season for Waterloo regional police.

The force has released the numbers from its Holiday Retail Crime Safety Blitz this past December, and dozens of arrests were made. Over the popular shopping season, 56 people were arrested with a combined 62 charges laid.

Police said the youngest of those arrested was just 14 years old, the oldest was 60.

Eight people were arrested on outstanding warrants.

In a release, police said the enforcement was focused on problem areas based on crime analysis, with a goal of “targeting the growing issue of retail theft across the region.”

In all, over $6,700 in stolen property was recovered.

This included jerseys, clothing, high-end cosmetics, gift cards, and personal hygiene products.

When it comes to theft prevention, police are asking anyone who sees suspicious activity to report it immediately.
