Careless smoking blamed for fire at semi-detached homes in Kitchener

Firefighters are blaming careless smoking for sparking a fire that impacted two semi-detached homes in Kitchener.

Crews with the Kitchener Fire Department responded to the fire at 126 and 128 Mooregate Cres. early Sunday morning.

No physical injuries were reported, but damage to both units is estimated at $600,000.

Investigators say the fire was caused by the careless disposal of smoking materials. No foul play was involved.

The Ontario Fire Marshal was contacted but did not attend the scene.
