An early morning collision in Waterloo during the early morning commute on Highway 85 is now under investigation by Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), with officers still on the hunt for the driver of the vehicle.
It was first reported at around 7:00 a.m., when emergency services were called about a single-vehicle crash on the northbound lanes of Highway 85 around University Avenue East.
The crash led to lengthy delays for multiple hours, with Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation closing a portion of the local highway for cleanup efforts.
Those delays stretched from Ottawa Street North in Kitchener, through the expressway, to the King Street North off-ramp heading towards Conestoga Mall.
The lane closure and delays have since cleared in the area.
The investigation, run through the Highway Safety Division of the OPP, into what caused the collision is still underway, with officers telling 570 NewsRadio that the vehicle was left vacant after the crash, still looking to find the location of the driver.
Further details on the incident are still unknown at this time.
