Princess Twin Cinemas has been a staple in the community for 40 years, bringing the love of film and many batches of popcorn, and now its getting a face-lift.
According to the business, this summer, both theatres at 46 King St. N. and 6 Princess St. W. will be getting upgrades meant to maximize comfort for moviegoers. This includes a new seating layout, a bigger screen and more leg room.
“As they say, ‘This is the stuff that dreams are made of,'” the business said in a statement.
The two theatres will take turns receiving the upgrades, meaning that people are still able to head to the movies this summer while construction is underway. The business also notes that it plans on updating its birthday gifts for people, teasing a “state-of-the-art” upgrade.
The first of the two twin cinemas is closing this month.
The business calls the renovations “long-awaited,” hinting at its historical year in operation for the Princess Original Cinema. It has been more than four decades in September since the first theatre opened. To celebrate, the business marked the milestone by screening Casablanca as it had in 1985.
“We are immensely proud of John Tutt, his family and staff for always adding to the vibrancy of our community. We are grateful that both Princess Original, now celebrating their 40th anniversary and Princess Twin Cinemas are right in the centre of Uptown, bringing diversity to our arts and culture,” Jeyas Balaskanthan, executive director of the Uptown Waterloo Business Improvement Area, said previously.
