As the summer festival season transitions to fall fairs around Waterloo Region, one Kitchener councillor is looking ahead to potential events for years to come.
Kitchener’s Ward 6 Councillor Paul Singh this week pitched Kitchener Connect. It would potentially be a new annual festival highlighting not only city departments and resources but also volunteer opportunities for those living in Kitchener.
“I wanna be able to connect with residents that have been a part of this community for a long time, who feel disfranchised, that is the real problem. Those are the individuals that we connect back with and make sure that they start caring again, because they have so much more to offer,” said Singh.
The potential festival could also include exhibition space for local organizations, including workshops and hands-on activities related to City of Kitchener initiatives.
And of course, what event would be complete without entertainment, cultural performances, and food vendors, he said.
Kitchener Council passed Singh’s motion to get the ball rolling on the idea.
City staff will now look into the nitty-gritty of what this potential festival could look like, what it could include, and what it could cost.
Those discussions are set for November.
Council would still need to approve the final details and budget before Kitchener Connect gets the greenlight.
