An alleged fraud scheme that involved crooks posing as Bell Canada representatives has ended with three people from Kitchener under arrest.
Waterloo Regional Police said this operation ran for about six weeks between May 8 and June 20.
They said suspects posing as representatives of Bell contacted several victims and obtained their personal information.
Police said that information was then used to order more than $100,000 worth of new cell phones, which were shipped to a Kitchener address.
On June 24, Bell contacted police and alerted them to what was going on. On Monday, police executed two search warrants at unidentified residences in Kitchener.
Officers recovered more than $40,000 worth of property allegedly obtained by fraud.
Two men, and one woman, all from Kitchener, were arrested and charged with fraud over $5,000; and possession of stolen property over $5,000.
Police are still investigating, and anyone who knows anything about this alleged fraud is asked to call police at 519-570-9777, or reach out anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, or by clicking here.
