Crews face difficult conditions as blaze destroys shed in Guelph

By CityNews Kitchener Staff

Firefighters were called to a blaze in Guelph’s west end that destroyed a shed on Tuesday.

Crews faced difficult conditions during the situation that saw a shed catch fire on Speedvale Avenue, near Wellington Road 32. It was reported just after 12:30 p.m.

Steven Goode, the fire chief, said that crews from five different stations and four municipalities were called to tackle the unruly flames. The response included firefighters from Guelph-Eramosa, Maryhill, Breslau, and Puslinch who assisted with water support.

Part of the issue was that teams were tackling the fire in the midst of a heat wave.

Officials said their goal was to protect the home on the property from the fire. No injuries were reported.

However, Goode said the shed was “consumed by fire” and was a total loss.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
