The City of Cambridge and Township of North Dumfries are edging closer to a land transfer deal that could give the municipality more opportunities to develop in the south end of Cambridge.
Pending approval from the Region of Waterloo, three parcels of land are set to be transferred from North Dumfries to Cambridge, labelled the “West Lands,” “South Lands,” and “Blair and Esther Lands.”
The City of Cambridge passed a bylaw supporting the land transfer on Tuesday.
In the deal for the West Lands, the City of Cambridge is set to pay the township $3.2 million, and $200 for each building permit issued on the South Lands on a yearly basis.
The South Lands are primed for development and could benefit from the connection to the City of Cambridge’s municipal services.
The Region of Waterloo will consider the transfer at an upcoming council meeting.
