Another arrest made in Hong Kong drug smuggling case

An international drug smuggling investigation that was sparked when cocaine was found in a Cambridge woman’s suitcase has now led to another arrest.
A 20-year-old Cambridge woman was arrested at the Hong Kong International Airport in September when 25 kilograms of cocaine was discovered in her checked luggage.
The incident prompted an extended investigation involving multiple law enforcement partners, and in June, investigators arrested a 36-year-old Markham man.
Police alleged the man was connected to a sophisticated drug network that facilitated the Cambridge woman’s travel from Toronto to Hong Kong.
Earlier this month, a 20-year-old Cambridge man was arrested and charged for the exportation of cocaine and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.
Police then searched a Cambridge home this week where a 24-year-old man was arrested and charged for the same offences.
Waterloo regional police say their investigation remains ongoing.
