An officer with the Guelph Police Service (GPS) is facing assault charges after an interaction with a citizen in January.
On Jan. 13, the constable, who was a 13-year member of the service, had an interaction with a member of the public at an unspecified location, which led to a public complaint with GPS.
Halton Regional Police conducted an investigation into the interaction and charged the GPS officer with assault.
“The officer has been reassigned to administrative duties,” said the Guelph Police Service in a press release.
The officer’s first court appearance is on June 13, and the Professional Standards branch of GPS will continue the investigation.
