It’s been a little over a week since the Kitchener Rangers were eliminated from the OHL’s Western Conference Finals by the London Knights.
But as they say, there is no rest for the wicked, and the coaching staff and management team are beginning work to identify the players who will add to the Rangers’ success in the years to come.
There are roughly 40 invites to the spring development camp at the Activa Sportsplex in Kitchener, most of them still young teens, a couple of years away from making the jump to the OHL.
Rangers General Manager, Mike Mckenzie told 570 NewsRadio there may be a few names at camp, fans might recognize.
“Evan Headrick played on our team but had a significant injury so he’ll be here. Alex Bilecki, he played on our team. Avry Anstis and Weston Cameron played Jr. B last year but got some games with us and were around the team.”
“Typically there’s a player or two each year that will be at this camp that will play on our team next year,” he added.
However, this really is about identifying the talent ready to make the jump to the OHL in the next few seasons.
The players are split into two squads: Team White and Team Blue.
There will be three inter-squad scrimmages, Saturday, May 10 at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Then on Sunday, May 11, at 10 a.m.
Fans are invited to attend for free. McKenzie says typically the Saturday night games gives the fans the best look at the prospects.
