Another top leader steps down at WCDSB during Pride flag controversy

A trustee in a top leadership position at the Waterloo Catholic District School Board (WCDSB) has stepped down without public explanation.

The board said in a brief statement sent out Thursday morning that Linda Cuff is no longer the vice-chair of the school board. She will stay on as a trustee.

“We thank Ms. Cuff for her leadership and dedicated service,” the memo reads.

This comes only days after the board elected a new chair, Renee Kraft, to fill the void of the previous chair, who also stepped down with no explanation after 1.5 years on the job.

This transpires as the Catholic board is mired in controversy, with a vote coming up on April 28 on a contentious motion from Trustee Conrad Stanley.

In his motion, Stanley points to alleged ongoing complaints, protests, and delegations from Catholic school parents and residents, urging the board to change its policies to ban all political and identity-based flags.

Allowing for the flags of Ontario and Canada to fly on school properties.

April 28 will also be the meeting on the job for Kraft, and now a new vice-chair will be elected at that same meeting.
