The Working Centre is holding an open house for its new affordable housing units on Queen Street South in Kitchener.
It takes place on Friday at 44 Queen Street South from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Individuals are expected to move into the units in June.
$3 million in funding was provided by the federal government for the project as part of the Rapid Housing Initiative.
The Working Centre has owned the buildings at 58 and 66 Queen Street for about 20 years.
During the pandemic, they identified an opportunity to turn their offices into apartment units at 58 Queen Street and also found they could design similar units at 44 Queen Street. They purchased the building and were able to design and build the units in 18 months.
There are 21 units for racialized and immigrant women in the community.
The units are located on the second, and third floors, and for the open house, they are only accessible by stairs.
