YW’s Rise-Up Breakfast bringing big names to Bingemans in support of women’s services

It’s a star-studded line-up for the signature fundraising event for one of the Region’s largest charities.

The YWKW Rise-Up Breakfast is coming up on Thursday, May 23 at the Bingemans Conference Centre. This year’s fundraiser will feature a fireside chat with Sophie Grégoire Trudeau moderated by world-renowned journalist, and Kitchener native Lisa LaFlamme.

“It’s quite a coup,” said Christine Michaud, Director of Community Engagement and Programs, YWKW, speaking to The Mike Farwell Show.

“Sophie is such a huge champion for women’s mental health and so is the YW,” said CEO Jennifer Breaton.

Since 1915, the YWKW has been providing support services for vulnerable women and their families in Waterloo Region.

YW currently supports over 150 women and children in supportive housing and is the second-largest employer of child care in the region.

“We provide child care services, before and after school programming and we’re also the largest provider of employment training and counselling services for women in our region.” said Breaton.

YWKW receives funding from all levels of government but anywhere from 30 to 40 per cent comes from fundraising. That makes The Rise-Up Breakfast one of the most important events of the year for the YW.

Tickets for the May 23 fundraiser are on sale now.

Individual tickets are $250 or a table of eight for $1,600.
