KW VegFest returns to Waterloo for pop-up event

By Luke Schulz

Uptown Waterloo will be welcoming back some planet-conscious deliciousness this Saturday, with the return of the fifth annual KW VegFest, this year in pop-up format.

Running from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Waterloo Town Square, guests are welcomed to enjoy the event's highlight of a half dozen local businesses and restaurants offering samples of plant-based foods and products to buy as well as information as to why residents should consider eating more plant-based products for the future of our planet.

Organized by Waterloo Region Climate Initiatives, VegFest event is made possible through assistance from VegFund, an organization that supports vegan advocacy work with a focus on animal rights, as well as funding from community donors.

“With such a small window of time left for us to turn things around for the planet, scientists tell us that turning our attention to the food we eat is essential…” reads a release on the event. “… VegFests across the planet celebrate and promote the benefits of plant-based living for everyone, and for our children's' future.”

Food offerings at this year's event include both Turkish and Indian food, as well as plant-based yogurts, ice cream, donuts, cheeses, sausages and more.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own reusable utensils and containers.
