Governor General back at U-W Friday

The governor general kicks off a busy few weeks today with a stop in Waterloo Region.
David Johnston will be back at his old stomping grounds – the University of Waterloo – where he served as president.
He’ll be there this afternoon at 5 for a conversation and book signing.
This is taking place at the new Hagey Hub, in the Hagey Hall addition.
Johnston’s latest book is titled, ” The Idea of Canada: Letters to a Nation.”
Prior to that, he will joins 570’s Eric Drozd Show at 11 this morning.
His visit comes just over a week before he heads to the Middle East.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced yesterday, Johnston will travel to Jordan, Israel and the West Bank – from October 29th to November 6th.
The PMO says “the visit will focus on security, refugee resettlement, and development issues – as well as promoting stronger innovation and education ties with the region.”
Trudeau says, “Canada is committed to deeper engagement in the Middle East. Canada’s policy in the region reflects what Canada is all about: defending our interests alongside our allies, working constructively with partners to build long-term peace and stability, and working to alleviate the suffering of those forced to flee their homes – including through resettlement.”
It will be a historic visit, with the PMO pointing out, “This will be the first time a Canadian Governor General conducts State visits to Jordan and Israel and a visit to the West Bank. The Governor General will be accompanied by a delegation of parliamentarians and civil society leaders.”
