Weekend construction to impact GO train service in Kitchener

Across the next two weekends, ongoing construction work will affect GO train service in Kitchener and its neighbouring cities.

The work is scheduled to take place on Sept. 12-13, and on Sept. 19-20, and over that time different GO buses will be running between Stratford or Kitchener GO and Hwy 407 Bus Terminal.

The work on Kitchener line is for the planned Stockyards Station, where crews are now working on the foundation to replace Grand River Bridge, while working on some maintenance along the line.

What is being impacted

For residents moving between Stratford or Kitchener GO stations, you can ride the usual route 30 GO buses between Stratford/Kitchener and Bramalea Go. Then, you can either connect to the service at Mount Dennis GO or stay on the bus to Hwy 407 Bus Terminal to connect to TTC Line 1 to Union Station.

For those going from Guelph Central, Acton, or Georgetown GO stations, you can take the normal GO bus route 33 to connect to service at Mount Pleasant GO. Then connect to service to Mount Dennis GO or stay on the bus to York Mill Bus Terminal. Metrolinx adds that the train service will end at Mount Dennis GO.

If you are going from Bramalea GO to Union, you can instead take the regular GO bus routes 30 and 47 to Hwy 407 Bus Terminal, and from there connect to TTC Line 1 to Union Station.

If you’re heading out to Union Station, take the train to Mount Dennis GO, then take the ECLRT Line 5 to connect to TTC Line 1 to Union station.

There will be no GO Transit service at Bloor GO station if you’re traveling from Bloor station to Union Station. Instead, you can ride the TTC Line 2 to TTC Line 1 at St. George station.

In their release for the planned construction, Metrolinx included a list of other temporary service adjustments that will be made:

From Sept. 14-17

• Train arrival and departure times will be adjusted up to 10 minutes earlier or later than usually scheduled 

• The 9:34 train that departs from Union Station to Kitchener GO won’t stop at Etobicoke North GO. Instead, it’s suggested that you take TTC line 1 from Union to Bloor-Yonge. From there transfer over to TTC Line 2 to Kipling. Then take TTC bus route 45B to Belfield Rd. At Kipling Ace., where you are then just a three-minute walk away from the Etobicoke North GO station. 

On Friday, Sept. 18.

• Train arrival and departure times will be adjusted up to 10 minutes earlier or later than usually scheduled.

• The 9:34 train that departs from Union Station to Kitchener GO won’t stop at Etobicoke North GO

Instead, it’s recommended that you take TTC line 1 from Union to Bloor-Yonge. Next, transfer over to TTC Line 2 to Kipling. Then take TTC bus route 45B to Belfield Rd. At Kipling Ace., where you are then just a three-minute walk away from the Etobicoke North GO station.

• The 21:34 train leaving Union Station will end at Georgetown GO, arriving at 22:35

• The 22:34 train from Union Station to Mount Pleasant GO will not be running

If you are trying to go from Brampton or Mount Pleasant GO, head to the Union Station Bus Terminal, then take the 23:25 GO bus route 31K.

For those looking to go to Malton or Bramalea GO, go to Union Station Bus Terminal, then take the GO bus route 31L, leaving between 23:25 and 23:35.

• There will be no service to Bloor, Mount Dennis, or Weston GO stations

If you are trying to go to Bloor GO, ride the TTC Line 1 from Union to St. George, then transfer to TTC Line 2 at St. George to Dunas West. From there, it is just a two-minute walk to Bloor GO.

For those trying to head to Mount Dennis GO, you can take TTC Line 1 from Union to Cedarvale. Then transfer to TTC Line 5 from Cedarvale to Mount Denis.

Finally, if you’re trying to go out to Weston GO, you can ride TTC Line 1 from Union at Lawrence West. Then transfer over to TTC bus route 52G to Lawrence Avenue West at Ralph Street. From there, just walk seven minutes to arrive at Weston GO. 

On Monday, Sept. 21.

• Train arrival and departure times will be adjusted up to 10 minutes earlier or later than usually scheduled.
• The 09:56 train leaving Bramalea GO to Union Station will not stop at Etobicoke North GO 

If you are going to Etobicoke North, you should take Brampton Transit bus route 15/115 from Bramalea GO to Airport Road at Jetliner Road. The walk over to the east side, where you will get on TTC bus route 52 to Dixon Road at Kipling Avenue. From there you will want to walk up to the north side of Kipling, then take TCC bus route 45B to Belfield Road at Kipling Avenue. After a three-minute walk, you will arrive at Etobicoke North GO.  

• The 16:05 train leaving Union Station to Bramalea GO will not stop at Etobicoke North GO 

If you’re heading to Etobicoke North GO, catch TTC Line 1 from Union to St. George, then transfer over to TTC Line 2 to Kipling. Next, taking TTC bus route 45A to Kipling at Belfield Road, then walk three more minutes until you arrive.  

On Tuesday, Sept. 22.

• Train arrival and departure times will be adjusted up to 10 minutes earlier or later than usually scheduled.

Finally, On Wednesday, Sept. 23, GO service will go back to its normal schedule.
