Hundreds attend Waterloo vigil to remember Orlando shooting victims

Hundreds gathered outside Waterloo’s Public Square last night to come together to mourn the victims of Sunday’s mass shooting in Orlando.
Members of SPECTRUM, OK2BEME, the LGBTQ community and the Muslim community among others, all showed a sign of strength and unity and spoke about how each community has been affected by these deadly attacks.
Waterloo Mayor Dave Jaworsky tells 570 News it was important to show the world how diverse our region is.
“All of us were out here,” says Jaworsky. “We had hundreds of citizens out here from the universities, Rotary Club, from all different places to recognize what happened and make sure we do the best possible to celebrate diversity in our own community.”
Sunna Murphy from SPECTRUM says our community needed a way to heal. “People were hurting,” says Murphy. They really needed to see not only the support of our community but also support from our leadership, from our government and all of our communities affected.”
After the candlelight vigil everyone participated in a march to Waterloo Region’s only rainbow supported nightclub, The Order.
A vigil was also held Thursday night in Guelph.
