Bald Eagles halt Cambridge home construction

An area of a home build in the Preston area of Cambridge is ‘on hold’ until at least later this month due to some Bald Eagles.
The stop work order is over some winter construction in an area of the Grand River Woods subdivision that is rising on Limerick Road by the 401.
There has been an agreement in place with the city that reins in winter work to protect a Bald Eagle habitat.
Rare’s Tom Woodcock tells 570 News Bald Eagles have been spotted in the Cambridge area for the last 15 years or so.
He says they like the area along the Grand River and roost in large trees there during the winter. He says they are quite sensitive to human disturbances, and says they need to be given some space.
He says there has been Bald Eagle nesting behaviour observed in the past in that construction area by the Grand.
Woodcock says you can spot Eagles in the Blair and Preston areas of Cambridge. They have also been spotted in Waterloo.
City officials received a temporary injunction last week against Brookpoint Estates.
The matter heads to court on Feb. 26th. It could block work in that special area until late March.
