St. Jacobs hotel to welcome Syrian refugees

A St. Jacobs hotel is opening its doors to Syrian refugees.
D-H Food and Lodging will house 16 to 22 people at a time, as soon as needed, once the restaurant closes before Christmas.
The nine-room hotel will offer its space into January and February.
The King Street building’s owner, Mercedes Corp., was approached by Reception House about the possibility of welcoming refugees.
Mercedes Corp. President Marcus Shantz tells 570 News it was a pretty simple decision to make, especially in a community like St. Jacobs that has a long history of lending a helping hand.
Over 1,000 Syrian refugees are expected to settle in Waterloo Region.
