Thunderstorms roll through Waterloo Region

A wild Monday morning for weather in Waterloo Region.

A severe thunderstorm watch was in effect overnight Sunday and early Monday morning, after thunderstorms rolled through the area, accompanied by heavy rains.

Around 1, 200 hydro customers in Wilmot Township are without power after a transformer caught fire on Nafziger Road.

K-W Hydro reports lightning appears to be the cause for this outage.

Customers in rural areas west of Nafziger and north of Erbs could be powerless until the end of the day.

Regional Police are also reporting a very busy morning responding to alarms apparently triggered by the weather.
