Three buildings in downtown Kitchener without water

Around 1:00 PM today the City of Kitchener received some calls regarding a water main break downtown.

A pipe burst underground on Water St between King and Charles.

Manager of Operations for Kitchener Utilities Tammer Gaber tells 570 news the pipe itself is being reconstructed.

“There are three buildings that are out of water right now…everything should be back up and running by 9 pm tonight.”

Gaber says frost leads to contraction and expansion of pipes. This particular pipe was put in the ground in 1975.
