Virtual public input sessions planned for WRPS’ 2027 budget

By Erin Anderson

Budget talks are underway for the Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) and community members can have their voices heard at a pair of public input sessions.

Police say they’re looking for feedback as they continue to work on their upcoming 2027 operating budget.

No dollar estimate has been released yet but the service’s 2026 budget was approved at $272.6 million.

Police say the annual budget serves as a roadmap for key investments in public safety and addressing staffing challenges, along with planned responses to pressures from the growing population and evolving criminal trends.

“Providing residents with meaningful opportunities to share their perspectives is essential,” said WRPS Board Chair, Ian McLean, in a release. “We value the voices of our community and look forward to hearing their priorities and ideas for strengthening public safety.”

The public input sessions will be held virtually on Oct. 20 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and on Nov. 30 from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Those wishing to participate must register ahead of time and signing up is first-come, first-served based on capacity.

Written submissions can also be emailed to board@wrps.on.ca prior to each session.
