Waterloo lacking casino feedback

Waterloo city residents are having their say on the potential of a casino moving into their community.

Early indications however suggest they are not breaking down the doors of city hall to have a say on the contentious issue.

Today’s Waterloo Chronicle reports, just over two weeks into the public consultation phase and less than 300 people have filed official submissions.

As of Monday, the city received 291 responses – the lion’s share of those via the online form, found on the city’s website.

City staff say they have yet to tally who voted yea or nay so it’s not clear if there is heavy support one way or the other, but some city councillors say the direct contact they’ve had with residents suggests they are against a casino.

The city will receive feedback until the end of the month.
