Heat wave ramps up

Get ready for what could be the hottest day of the year in central and eastern Canada.
570 News Weather Specialist John Wilson expects a high of 36 today, with a humidex value of 46. That would smash the record of 32 set in 2005. The last 36 degree day was on August 8, 2001.
Environment Canada says the mercury is likely to hit 32 in Fredericton, 33 in Montreal, 34 in Ottawa and 37 in Toronto. Windsor residents should expect it to be a blistering 39.
The rising temperatures are due to what’s being called a heat dome — a hot, unmoving high-pressure area hovering over central Canada.
The dome is pushing the jet stream well to the north and keeping cooler or wetter weather out.
Environment Canada senior climatologist Dave Phillips says it’s like a heat pump and it just sluggishly sits there.
Don’t expect relief any time soon — above average temperatures are expected for the rest of the summer.
