C. difficile outbreak declared

A C. difficile outbreak has been declared at Guelph General Hospital.
The outbreak was declared on Tuesday because the hospital had more than three patients get C. difficile in the months of May and June.
Hospital officials say there have been no new cases in the last two weeks.
It will be at least six weeks before the outbreak can been declared over.
The hospital has increased its efforts in infection control including having alcohol gel available so visitors can clean their hands when both entering and leaving all areas of the hospital.
C. difficile causes diarrhea and is one of the most common infections in hospitals as well as long-term care facilities.
