Kitchener lotto winner plans to leave apartment living behind

A retired factory worker in Kitchener said he needed a couple sips of coffee before realized he was a millionaire.

Melvin C. of Kitchener said he was going about his regular Sunday morning routine, including checking the lottery numbers, when he saw he was a winner.

But he thought he had won $1,000 in the April 18th, Lotto 6/49 Gold Ball Draw.

After the coffee kicked-in he said he noticed the other three zeros.

The 68-year-old said he immediately woke-up his wife and two of them sat together processing what had just happened.

“It felt surreal — like we were in a dream!” he said.

Melvin said the top priority now is to buy the couples first house and leave apartment living behind, adding he’s especially looking forward to having a deck.

“It’s life changing. That’s the only way I can describe it. I’m beyond happy and incredibly excited for what’s ahead.”

The winning ticket was purchased at the Petro-Canada gas station on Imperial Road South in Guelph.
