Police look to tackle ‘unique challenges’ in Wellesley with CCTV camera on Line 86

As the Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) expands its closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera program across Waterloo Region, the service is now turning to Wellesley Township.

WRPS presented to councillors this week and proposed a CCTV camera be installed on Line 86 at Manser Road.

The area acts as a key route connecting Wellesley, Woolwich and North Perth.

In a presentation to councillors, Inspector Jarrett Brown said the township presents “unique challenges for community policing,” with an “expansive rural landscape.”

The service is hopeful CCTV cameras can help with investigations involving the township.

The finalized plan for the proposed location on the north end of the township will be presented to Wellesley Council at a later date as staff continue to work with WRPS.

Right now, there are 15 CCTV cameras installed across Waterloo Region in Kitchener, Cambridge, Waterloo, and North Dumfries.

Regional police said during the first 44 days of the system, the cameras were used 19 times.
