Waterloo Regional Police have nabbed suspects wanted in connection with two jewelry store robberies in the past two months.
Three men were arrested yesterday, after a daylight robbery at a Cash Max store on Weber Street in Kitchener.
They have also been charged in that robbery and another holdup at that store back in December.
The suspects are between the ages of 18 and 20, and have been identified as Leon Cunningham, Dhirmal Gohil and Punchok Wangail.
They are facing numerous counts of robbery, wearing a disguise with intent to commit an indictable offence, and possessing a weapon, and were held for a bail hearing today.
Police had been investigating the string of robberies for several weeks, trying to find links between them.
They are crediting Conestoga Mall’s security footage with identifying the license plate on a vehicle the thieves used during the robbery at Raffi Jewellers.
Two witnesses identified similar plates in the heist at Ben Moss Jewellers, both getting one number, the same one, wrong. Investigators made the connection.
Police are also thanking the clerk at the Cash Max store with quick thinking during yesterday’s robbery that helped lead them to the suspects nearby.
Inspector Greg Lamport says he hopes the arrests provide some comfort to the community.
The investigation continues, but police say there is no evidence linking the three accused to the robbery at the People’s Jewellers store back in December.
