The Conservative government is spending 240-thousand dollars to poll Canadians about green energy.
One study will gauge opinion on a range of issues related to energy policy and another will track awareness of the Energy Star symbol.
But Nathan Cullen, the N-D-P’s natural resources critic, says he wishes the government would have spent the money on green energy projects.
Documents obtained by The Canadian Press indicate the plan was finalized in the weeks after the federal budget.
The budget came under fire from environmental groups over the low level of funding for green-energy projects.
Renewable energy producers are upset Ottawa failed to guarantee long-term funding for the ecoEnergy program, which is slated to run out in 2011.
They say that effectively ends subsidies for solar and wind energy projects.
