Waterloo Region now has the facts on potential threats to our drinking water and now it must determine how to deal with it.
80% of the region’s drinking water comes from the ground and Friday’s Record reports, planners have identified over 2,600 properties that could threaten that drinking water.
The region stresses this does not mean they are causing any problems, but the potential is there.
The region has 38 municipal well fields and some of these properties have fuel storage on them, as well as road salt and pesticides.
Officials will now zero in on each property to determine whether or not they are a risk and if they are take steps to minimize those threats.
