WRPS monitoring data breach involving Crime Stoppers tip platform

The Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) is monitoring a data breach involving a service provider used by Crime Stoppers.

Police say they’ve been informed of a cybersecurity incident that affected Navigate360, which is the third-party provider of the P3 tip management platform.

The platform is used by Crime Stoppers programs across the country.

While the information gathered can help police investigations, WRPS say their technology systems are completely separate from Crime Stoppers’ and do not connect.

However, WRPS will continue to monitor the latest developments as Waterloo Regional Crime Stoppers has indicated it requested a comprehensive assessment of the scope and impact of the breach from Navigate360.

The local Crime Stoppers’ chapter also released a statement confirming the data breach.

“The P3 platform operates independently of the Waterloo Regional Police Service, and there is no impact on WRPS networks or systems,” read the statement. “Waterloo Regional Crime Stoppers is working with the Canadian Crime Stoppers Association and Navigate360 to assess the scope and impact of the breach.”
