Police arrest suspect in relation to March shooting in Kitchener

By Luke Schulz

Regional police are providing an update into their investigation into a Kitchener shooting that occurred in the area of Blockline Road and Country Hill Drive on March 23.

According to the service, that incident saw multiple shots fired just before 1 a.m., causing damage to property in the area including several vehicles – though no injuries were reported in relation to the shooting. That shooting is believed to have been a targeted incident.

While a dark coloured vehicle was seen leaving the scene of the shooting at a high rate of speed, police note they were able to locate that vehicle only a short distance away – as the occupants said someone had shot their vehicle before running from the area. That suspect was described as a man wearing all black with a face mask and glasses.

As that investigation continues, regional police now say they've arrested a 24-year-old Kitchener man in relation to that shooting – placing them under arrest on Wednesday in Milton. That suspect now faces several firearms related offences including discharging a firearm with intent to endanger life, possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition, weapons dangerous in more.

That individual is being held in custody and will appear in court on Dec. 1.

The service notes that a separate 22-year-old Kitchener male was also arrested and charged in relation to this incident back on August 16 – charged with possession of a restricted firearm and occupying a vehicle with a firearm inside. A restricted .45 calibre handgun was seized in relation to those charges.

Anyone with information on this incident is now being asked to contact regional police's General Investigations Unit at 519-570-9777 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
