Two-night closure of Highway 401 through Cambridge this week

By Maddie Demarte

The long-term project to widen Highway 401 to 10 lanes through Cambridge continues.

The Ministry of Transportation (MTO) says girders will be installed on Hespeler Road during overnight closures.

The westbound lanes of the highway will close at Hespeler Road starting Tuesday, Aug. 24 at 11 p.m., reopening at 5 a.m. Wednesday.

Traffic will be diverted off the 401 at Hespeler Road heading northbound, and will then need to take the Beaverdale Road and Queen Street roundabout back onto southbound Hespeler Road, and rejoin the westbound 401 from there.

Eastbound lanes of Highway 401 will be blocked from Hespeler Road to Townline Road on Wednesday, Aug. 25 at 11 p.m. until 5 a.m. on Thursday.

Drivers heading eastbound will be detoured via Hespeler Road to Pinebush Road to Townline Road to the eastbound 401.

MTO says Hespeler Road will remain open to local traffic during each closure.
