New website launched to highlight Grand River trails network

With cycling season just a few weeks away, the Grand Watershed Trails Network has launched a new website to entice riders to take in the largest watershed in southwestern Ontario on foot or two wheels.

Launched March 4, the new site features interactive maps and guidebooks highlighting amenities like restaurants, hotels, campgrounds and activities along a suggested trail network, starting at the Grand River headwaters in Dundalk and ending at Lake Erie.

A map for the Cambridge section adds a new Cambridge loop with enhanced interactivity and links designed to “connect people to the river and its heritage, cultural and outdoor experiences,” said chair of the Grand Watershed Trails Network Anne Crowe.

The trail links suggested on the site attempt to fill gaps in the network between the Kissing Bridge Trailway and Guelph to Goderich Trail in West Montrose, and the Cambridge to Paris Rail Trail.

It follows the Trans Canada Trail to get there through Cambridge.

Crowe told Cambridge council this week they’re hoping the new site “will become the new stop if you’re coming to Waterloo region, whether you’re a local…or whether you’re coming from halfway around the world.”

“We want to be the one-stop shop to get all the information that you could possibly require to come to the Grand River and enjoy the trails,” she said.
