Wilfrid Laurier University is bringing back mandatory masking for certain settings when students return to campus next month.
As of September 8, face-coverings will be required in all instructional spaces.
It comes after Laurier paused its masking and proof of vaccination requirements in May.
Mask-wearing will continue to be optional throughout the rest of the university, although some study-spaces will be reserved for those who prefer to mask-up.
Mandatory vaccination rules are still on hold, but the university maintains they could be brought back on short notice.
Staff and students are encouraged to keep up-to-date on their vaccinations as a result.
“Our objective is to provide the Laurier community with a safe on-campus environment in support of in-person teaching, learning, research and student experience,” said Deborah MacLatchy, president and vice-chancellor. “The safety of our students, faculty and staff remains at the centre of our decisions. I am looking forward to welcoming the Laurier community to an in-person fall term.”
