Guelph Police: Drunk driver went 600 metres, then passed out

Guelph police said a driver didn’t get very far from home before he passed out because he was so drunk.

Officers were called out Tuesday night to a plaza at Wellington Street East and Gordon Street, after witnesses phoned in about a vehicle being driven erratically.

Those witnesses told Guelph police the driver had passed out, and seemed disoriented when he woke up.

Officers came out to the scene, which was only 600 metres from the driver’s home.

Police say he had almost twice the legal amount of alcohol in his system.

They gave him a roadside breath test, and then more testing back at a police station.

The 68-year-old was charged with impaired driving, and his vehicle and driver’s licence were seized.
