Pro-Palestinian rally planned in Kitchener following ceasefire deal

A rally to stand with the Palestinian community is set to take place Friday evening in front of Kitchener City Hall.

The Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM) is organizing the rally. The group says the message of the rally is that there is still a lot of work to be done in Gaza.

Nancy Yasmin, an organizer with PYM said while their group is relieved to see a ceasefire deal in place, a lot of people overseas are still struggling in the ongoing conflict.

“The purpose of this rally is to recommit ourselves to the liberation of Palestine,” said Yasmin. “Even if the ceasefire was actually enacted this second, there are over one million Gazans displaced in tents, hospital, school court yards in the cold winter.”

She adds they will continue to call on the Canadian parliament to impose a two-way arms embargo with Israel.

“It will be the duty of our movement to ensure that every backer of this genocide like Canada who maintain full ownership and responsibility of this genocide answer for their war crimes.”

Other community groups, including Neighbours for Palestine and Sporas are expected to speak at the rally.

Friday’s rally will begin at 6 p.m.
