Public health issues back-to-school checklist

By CityNews Kitchener Staff

Region of Waterloo Public Health has put together a checklist for parents and caregivers as kids get ready to head back to school.

“As the school year approaches, many families are getting ready for the first day of school,” said Dr. Hsiu-Li Wang, Waterloo Region’s Medical Officer of Health, in a release. “Public Health is here to help parents and caregivers find trusted information and connect with services that support a healthy start to the school year.”

At the top of list is ensuring students’ vaccination records are up-to-date and report any changes to public health.

Last year, more than 1,300 elementary students and 704 secondary students were suspended because of outdated records.

Eye exams and dental check-ups are also encouraged for students of all ages.
