The Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) launched the “Project Firebird” investigation earlier this summer.

It came to a culmination on Aug. 26 when officers with the WRPS Drugs and Firearms Unit searched a home in the Ira Needles Blvd. and Highview Dr. area.

Investigators reportedly seized a stolen loaded handgun, extended magazines, suspected hydromorphone pills, and 750 grams of suspected fentanyl.

A 17-year-old from Guelph and 22-year-old man from Kitchener were both arrested and charged with a dozen offences, including possession for the purpose of trafficking and unauthorized possession of a firearm.

Police say the 22-year-old is facing an additional charge of possession of a firearm for the purpose of trafficking.

WRPS are asking anyone with further information on the investigation to come forward.
