Driver caught using cellphone before serious crash on rural road

Police in Stratford have released details of a driver who has been ticketed twice this summer, at the same location, for using their cellphone while behind the wheel.
In the second case, the driver reportedly did not stop at a stop sign on a rural road, and crashed into a pickup truck and another stopped vehicle.
On July 29, in the middle of the afternoon, police said they were called to the intersection of Perth Line 20 and Perth Road 130 between St. Marys and Stratford.
A driver of a minivan was reportedly involved, and has since been charged with careless driving causing bodily harm.
“Police learned the driver of the minivan was on their cellphone at the time of the collision,” said police.
One driver had to be sent to hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries.
Police added this was not the first time this individual was driving distracted.
“Unfortunately, the same driver was also issued a ticket on July 10th, 2026 (only 19 days prior to the collision) for using their cellphone while driving at the same location.”
The minimum fine for a distracted driving ticket is $615.
A 41-year-old from West Perth has since been charged.
