‘Rockin it at Rockway’ hosting wrap-up Wednesday BBQ concert

For the final time this summer, City of Kitchener’s ‘Rockin it at Rockway’ returns for a blow off BBQ Wednesday to cap off the 2026 concert series.

The series began earlier in the summer on June 24, and has since been a bi-weekly concert series at Kitchener’s Rockway Centre patio. The events, which run from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. have seen a variety of musical acts take the spotlight. The series’ acts have included ‘Kevin Coates and The Interesting People’, Michael Kelly Cavan, ‘Turk and the Hobbits’, and ‘Twas Now’.

As a special finale to ‘Rockin it at Rockway’, organizers have announced a special outdoor BBQ event will take place, complete with one final musical act. ‘The Flamingos’ will take to the stage for the August 19 performance, as the final in the series of 5 musical acts.

The Flamingos are billed as “Guelph’s best-dressed Top 40 cover band,” and play hit songs from eras including oldies, 80s, 90s, 2000s and modern pop.

According to Facebook, the band has previously performed at Guelph’s Rockmosa Park, the Creemore Copper Kettle Festival, Guelph’s River Run Centre, and in October, the Guelph Farmer’s Market’s 2026 Halloween celebration.

Organizers of the Rockin it at Rockway BBQ say patio seating will be limited at Rockway Centre, so they suggest attendees “bring a lawn chair and a snack.” Rockway Centre is located at 1405 King St. E. in Kitchener, and the event will feature free onsite parking. The BBQ will begin at 6:00 p.m. with the musical performance beginning sometime before 8:00 p.m.

The BBQ dinner itself will be free at the event, but registration is required to reserve attendance. Those looking to attend can register at kitchener.ca/Rockway or by calling 519-741-2507.

While the event will be free, the city’s press release encourages attendees to donate $5 per person at the performance to help cover the cost of the event. This donation is not required.

According to Environment Canada, Wednesday’s local forecast should see clear skies and low humidity for the outdoor show.

Temperatures are expected to hover around 25 C at the start of the event, dropping to around 20 C by its conclusion. No rain or storm is expected Wednesday evening, but organizers say the show will go rain or shine.
