Kitchener’s Caribana Ignite Festival cancelled

The popular Caribana Ignite Festival will not go ahead as planned this year.
A statement from the City of Kitchener and the Caribana Arts Group said the cancellation is due to organizational changes.
The announcement comes just ten days before the festival was set to kick off.
“While we are disappointed not to move forward in 2026, we believe this pause will allow us to strengthen our organization and build a solid foundation for future success,” said Interim Board Chair Quammie Williams.
“We remain committed to bringing this celebration back and working alongside our community partners to ensure its long-term success.”
The statement goes on to say that additional preparation was needed to put on the major cultural celebration Aug. 21 and 22 in Carl Zehr Square. This would have been the third year for the event.
Though disappointed the festival will not go forward this year, the city said it supports the decision.
“The City of Kitchener values its partnership with Caribana Arts Group and looks forward to continuing conversations and exploring opportunities to welcome this celebration back in the years ahead,” said Manager of Special Events Steve Roth.
The festival hopes to return in August 2027.
