A man from Guelph was arrested after police say he approached and assaulted a stranger working in the area.
Around 7:25 p.m., officers with the Guelph Police Service were flagged down in the Gordon St and Fountain St area.
The man told police that he was working. Then an unknown man walked up to him and punched him in the face.
While talking to police, the victim said they tried protecting themselves by holding up the clipboard. However, the man would end up punching and breaking the clipboard, leading to different documents falling onto the road.
Police say the clipboard and some of the documents were stolen from the ground before the man then fled.
In a media release, police say on Monday afternoon, the 30-year-old man was located in the downtown area and was arrested for assault, mischief, theft under $5,000 and two counts of breaching a probation order.
