To over 100,000 individuals in Kitchener so far in 2026, the Forest Heights Community Library has served as a haven for learning, reading, events and community celebrations. Now it is the community’s turn to celebrate the 50 year anniversary of the historic location, with the library opening on this day in 1976.
Saturday morning at 10 a.m., the celebrations will begin at the branch itself, located at 251 Fischer-Hallman Rd. Organizers of the event say the morning’s celebrations will include speeches by featured guests including Mayor Berry Vrbanovic, Ward 7 Councillor Bil Ioannidis and Robyn Zondervan of Kitchener Public Library.
Younger kids can also attend the festivities for a special performance from Miss T the Bubble Queen, to watch a bubbleology show including creations that are “as large as a Mini Cooper”. Free tickets for the performance can be acquired on-site at the library’s front desk, with the performance beginning at 10:30 a.m.
The Forest Heights LIbrary was built in 1976 alongside the Forest Heights Pool constructed to open at the same time. This partnership between the two spaces served as one of the first of its kind.
The neighbourhood around the library had become one of the most popular stops for Kitchener Public Library’s bookmobile, so it was decided the space would be the perfect location for the new library.
