Man arrested after hitting Guelph resident with wooden object

Right around 7 a.m., on Aug. 20, police received reports of an assault involving two people that did not know each other.
Officials responded to the incident in the Waterloo Avenue and Gordon Street area and spoke with a resident. Police say that the resident told them they had asked a man he did not know about a long wooden object he was carrying. After the question, officers say that the accused man was upset, and the two people involved needed to be separated.
However, immediately after being separated the accused man then tried to hit the resident with the wooden object multiple times.
Police say they were able to identify and take the accused man into custody shortly before 9 a.m. While arresting the man, officers were able to locate what they believe to be the object used in the incident.
The resident sustained minor injuries as a result of the incident.
