Summit boasts Cambridge’s role in Ontario’s nuclear sector

Hundreds gathered in Cambridge on Monday for the 2026 Nuclear Summit.

The theme was “Rise to the Occasion” with nearly 200 people attending the event. This included local industry leaders from companies such as BWXT, ATS Automation, Eclipse Automation, and Pinnacle Logistics, all based in Cambridge.

The local manufacturing industry, supply chain networks, and skilled workforce were among the areas of focus, along with roles in the province’s nuclear sector.

“The Nuclear Summit was an opportunity to not only celebrate the outstanding work in the nuclear industry already happening in Cambridge,” said Mayor Jan Liggett. “But to continue conversations on how we can work together to grow a reliable and sustainable energy future.”

The event also highlighted how the province is looking to be a global leader in energy security, isotope production, nuclear technology, and the role Cambridge plays in that.

Opportunities for apprenticeships in the construction and trade industries were a focus as well, and the role those sectors play in nuclear energy growth.

“Today’s discussions in Cambridge are a clear example of how the work underway in the Clean Energy Frontier region of Bruce, Grey and Huron counties delivers real benefits for communities across the province,” said President and CEO, Nuclear Innovation Institute, Jessica Linthorne.

“Our team at NII looks forward to continuing the momentum from today’s event into our advocacy, economic development and policy projects.”
