A woman and her child are safe after a kidnapping and shooting in Kitchener that ended in Waterloo.
Waterloo regional police were called early Saturday morning, around 3:30 a.m., to reports of a shooting in the Courtland Avenue and Hayward Avenue area of the city.
The shooting victim, a man, had left before officers arrived, and was later checked on by police.
Police said the suspect had also forced a woman and her child into a vehicle before driving away.
That vehicle and the people inside were found in Waterloo, in the Weber Street and Albert Street area. A gun was also found in the vehicle.
The suspect tried to run from police but was tracked down by the Canine Unit. The woman and child were not hurt.
A 33-year-old man from Waterloo has since been charged. He is facing numerous offences including kidnapping.
Police said those involved are all known to each other.
The investigation is ongoing and police are asking anyone with information to come forward.
